Enjoy a Classic Riverbank Picnic

| April 16, 2012

Picnics are a pastime enjoyed throughout the world. For hundreds of years, people have met in the great outdoors to spread out a blanket and enjoy simple finger foods. Riverbank picnics offer a classic, yet unique way to enjoy a picnic. If you are fortunate enough to have access to a beautiful riverside area near your home, you will find that the flowing water and serene atmosphere are ideal for a relaxing picnic.

If you would like to hold riverside picnic, try to plan the occasion during the spring or fall, or midday when there are less bugs out. This is especially important if the river is in a closed in area that is typically buggy. During the right season, the flowing river water is much more ideal than having a picnic near a pond or similar body of water where the water is stagnant. However, it is always a good idea to bring along some bug repellant.

If the river is in an open area, a summer riverside picnic can be a great amount of fun. Bring along swimwear that you can use to be able cool off in the water. Children will love to get their feet wet and will enjoy exploring the area. With a riverbank picnic, you can enjoy an entire afternoon while getting away from all work-related events and other stresses.

If you will be hiking in to your riverside picnic spot, you might want to invest in a picnic backpack. These backpacks are insulated and compartmentalized for the purpose of holding food and beverages. This will allow you to enjoy your hike while carrying along everything that you need. Bring a soft blanket to sit on, napkins, utensils, and anything else that you think you might need to enjoy the occasion.

You can customize a riverside picnic based on who will be attending. For a romantic getaway, pack along gourmet finger food and wine. For a family event, simple sandwiches that everyone will enjoy, tasty beverages, and snacks will do the trick. In addition to the food, the outdoor environment will provide everything you need to enjoy a memorable day.

What could be better than great food, the sight and sounds of a flowing river, and the company of your family and/or friends? Picnics in the great outdoors are a great way to get out of the house, get away from electronic devices, and enjoy a slower-paced and rejuvenating pastime, even if it’s only for an afternoon.
