Picnic Backpacks for the True Culinary Adventure

| March 29, 2011

Most of the time, people head out to have a picnic when they want to get away from it all.  Unfortunately, many picnic spots become popular with everybody and they tend to stay that way for quite awhile.  This means that, when you have your own picnic, you’re probably going to have to deal with crowds, which defeats the entire purpose.  If you have a need to get out in the great outdoors and enjoy a meal away from the press of humanity, you may want take to a look at picnic backpacks as an alternative to the traditional picnic basket.

Like all backpacks, picnic backpacks allow you to carry quite a bit of weight on your back without being uncomfortable.  Obviously, these are soft designs, not the same hard designs that are used for traditional picnic baskets.  They are heavily insulated, in some cases, allowing you to carry cold or hot beverages a long distance without having their temperatures change significantly.  Many of them also have enough padding to ensure that the sometimes awkward supplies that you take to a picnic site don’t end up poking and prodding you in the back as you’re carrying your load.

Picnic backpacks also provide a weatherproof way to carry your food and other items.  Backpacks are easily set under a shelter if the conditions get bad and, if you just need to sit down and take a load off your feet for a while, they’re durable enough and protect their contents well enough to be set on the ground.  There are quite a few different designs available.  Some of them are very large and able to accommodate a picnic of quite a few people and others are much smaller and designed for one or two people.

Picnic backpacks can also be used if you’re heading out on a bike trip, on a motorcycle run or any other adventure that involves being away from home for a while; at least long enough to work up an appetite.  The insulated models also make good choices for use as a regular lunch box.  They’re able to keep food at a constant temperature for quite awhile and they’re sizable enough to carry both a large meal and a couple of snacks within them.  These are good choices for those who are looking for something a bit different than the traditional basket.
