Picnic Supplies You Cannot Forget

| April 15, 2011

If you’re planning a picnic for a special occasion, or simply because you want to enjoy a beautiful day, there are a few picnic supplies that you’ll need to take with you before you hit the road.

The first thing you need for a picnic is something to sit on. If you’re having a breakfast picnic, the grass could be wet with dew and you won’t want to sit on that. Having a blanket during your picnic, no matter what time of day you’re going, will lessen the likelihood that bugs will crawl onto you while you’re eating. Plus, you’ll be more comfortable. You may want to consider taking a stadium seat or some other kind of portable chair with you just in case sitting on the grass is uncomfortable.

One of the most important picnic supplies is a picnic basket. Even if you’re just driving to your destination and enjoying your picnic right beside your vehicle, carrying your food and utensils in a basket will keep everything clean and organized. Some picnic baskets even serve to keep your meal cold. Baskets come in all shapes, materials, and sizes. From classic wooden picnic baskets, to newer and insulated polyester picnic baskets, you can find the perfect basket for you online.

What about cups and utensils? These are very important picnic supplies, which are often forgotten in haste. Typical picnic side dishes, such as potato salad, will require the use of a fork or spoon. You may even need knives if you plan to cut your sandwich. Moreover, if you bring drinks, you’re going to need disposable cups to put them in.

Just because you’re going on a picnic, doesn’t mean you have to eat turkey sandwiches and chips. All it takes to turn an ordinary picnic into a gourmet affair is a different menu. However, if you’re going to be cooking meat, you’ll need to take a small grill with you. You can find portable grills online that are simple and inexpensive. You can also find more sophisticated grills. Even if your meal requires a bigger grill, there are large portable grills that feature wheels with carrying cases for easier transport while walking to your favorite picnic spot.

While these picnic supplies are essential for a memorable picnic, it never hurts to take bug spray so that you don’t have to deal with pesky bugs. Don’t forget your camera either!
