The Charm and Practicality of Wicker Picnic Baskets

| April 13, 2011

Wicker Picnic Baskets have long been used for outdoor feasts. Traditional wicker baskets were often simply a basket with an inner lining. These days, wicker baskets that are highly insulated, durable, and include many specialized compartments are easy to find, whether online or otherwise.

For a simple cheese and wine picnic, choose a wicker basket that has compartments meant specifically to hold wine. Such baskets can come with a single wine compartment or several. They also might hold extra accessories such as a corkscrew, napkins, and glasses.

Larger wicker picnic baskets may hold all of your picnic essentials including the picnic blanket. It is important to consider what occasions you will be using your carrier for the most. If you will be bringing along a bottle of wine often, choose one that includes a wine compartment. If you prefer tea or coffee, there are wicker picnic baskets geared towards holding thermoses and mugs.

For outdoor barbecues, there are classic wicker baskets that will hold BBQ tools, mitts and an apron. They also might include insulated food compartments. Some even come equipped with these tools to ensure that they fit perfectly in customized compartments. There are large BBQ wicker picnic baskets that will also hold plates, utensils, napkins, and beverages.

Of course, if you prefer a simple wicker basket that most resembles old-fashioned picnic carriers, there are traditional baskets that are very basic, but charming nonetheless.

No matter what picnic gear you decide on, take the time to prepare ahead. It’s easy to forget a simple essential accessory, such as a corkscrew or a knife, that can make accomplishing tasks much more difficult. Create a checklist and make sure that everything is packed away before heading out the door.

A few picnic essentials should be a blanket or mat, hand wipes, napkins, paper or reusable plates, utensils, a can opener, a bottle opener, and a sharp knife. Nothing can ruin a picnic more than swarming flies or mosquitoes. Be sure to bring along bug repellent. It’s a good idea to bring along a first aid kit, especially if children will be accompanying you. Sunscreen and even a shade umbrella on a sunny day is important.

Once you are sure that you’ve packed all of the essentials, find a great spot to settle down at and enjoy the day. You’ll find that picnics are a wonderful way to relax and unwind.
